The escape

This series is as many of my works based on paradise, the thing that we regard as a place and image of perfectness. Strangely enough, these works of art bring upon us the feeling of contradiction. This contradiction lies in the simple fact that these works are quite roughly painted, something less likely to expect in imagery that visualizes the perfectness of a paradise. On the other hand there is the fact that we mostly shelter ourself from these images, thus in a way it seems natural to present them as blur and vague, as they present a form of naivety within Western culture. A second way in which the feeling of contradiction takes a hold of the viewer is through the fabrics used in the paintings. Textiles are warm and soft, it is a material that seems to confort us. Fact is we wear clothes from, and sleep in sheets of fabric, and thats exactly where we find the tension in these works between the rough, cold painting style and the softness of the fabric and its paterns.
