Ruins are a series based on the ancient structural remains of mostly Greek and Roman former city parts. Like in the series 'Wreckage', there is a subtile tension between creation and destruction noticeable. To accumulate and question this tension, thus both the aspect of creation and destruction, the paintings are all made out of canvas that is sewed together like a patchwork. They can be seen as little pieces forming one, becoming one. This colliding illuminates the creational role in Ruins, while on the other hand the destructive aspect is firstly situated in the theme Ruins and secondly in the red colored lines, which one might read as strikethroughs or a form of adjustment and even erasure.
